In June 2007, severe river and surface water flooding was experienced in the region of Yorkshire as the result of extreme rainfall; in Hull, 105mm of rainfall was recorded in a single day – equivalent to around two months of rainfall at normal levels. The flooding affected thousands of Yorkshire Water customers, with over 6000 calls received at the call centre in Bradford on the 25th June.

1000 telephone interviews were carried out with people in October and November 2008, some in Hull and a control group in Beverley.  This identified the impacts on those who had been flooded, awareness of which organisations are responsible for flood prevention and management and sources of information.
