In most cases, the pipes taking water from the boundary of your property into your house belong to you, or your landlord, if you’re renting. These are known as ‘private supply pipes’ and maintaining them is the responsibility of the property owner.

It’s estimated that around 23% of all leakages in the water network come from private supply pipes, often without property owner knowing about it.

Customers may find leaks themselves or water companies may find the leaks if they meter the property.

CCWater encourages water companies to offer free or reduced cost repairs when leaks on private supply pipes are found.

If you have any questions about your private water supply, contact your water company to ask about their policy.
