Each household customer in England and Wales pays around £21 per year, through their water bills, to cover the cost of debt.

How are we involved?

We look for a balance between water companies recovering debt, in the interest of all customers, and dealing sensitively with customers who find themselves in financial difficulty.

We work closely with water and sewerage companies to ensure they follow good practice and comply with Ofwat’s guidelines for dealing with household customers in debt.
