Speaking your language

Making information accessible to all is so important. As an organisation dedicated to helping people, it’s important that CCW does the best it can to make sure everyone can access the advice and information we provide, in a way that works for them.

Our recent Water For All report revealed that there is still much work to be done to ensure information – especially in terms of additional support and services – reaches all that need it. The report showed that currently only 42 percent of customers are aware of the additional support provided by water companies – referred to as priority services.

These additional services allow customers to register for free additional support as and when they need to do so. This extra help comes in many forms, including things such as home visits, emergency bottled water in the event of a supply interruption, and accessible communications.

CCW is committing to raising awareness of the support offered through the Priority Services Register to at least 60% by the end of 2025 and 75% by 2030. As part of this commitment, we want to ensure all the information we hold is accessible to all – including those where English may not be their first language or those with a visual impairment.

Recite Me

We are very excited to announce that one of the ways in which we aim to achieve this is with the use of a very clever new tool on our website called Recite Me. You may have already noticed our website looks a little different. Across the top you’ll now see a toolbar featuring options including accessibility and languages.

Using the language option, the tool automatically translates all text on our website so that users can see information in any language they choose. Excitingly, Recite Me offers more than 100 language options, making our website available to more people than ever.

So much more

Beyond its language capabilities, Recite Me also has a wide range of accessibility features that allow users with visual difficulties to change the way the website is displayed to meet their needs. For example, users can change the background, text and link colours to suit, text size can be increased or decreased and there is a screen reader feature for anyone that may be blind or have a visual impairment.
