Emma Clancy, Chief Executive, CCW

CCW has appointed Emma Clancy as its new chief executive to lead its efforts in building a fairer and more resilient water sector for consumers.

Emma will take the reins at the water consumer group from 1 July after joining from global building products manufacturer BMI where she was Director of Care.

She boasts a wealth of experience in consumer protection, public policy and regulation during a career covering sectors including construction, banking, retail and not-for-profit organisations.

Emma will replace long-standing chief executive Tony Smith whose leadership of CCW over the past 15 years has helped it to reverse the industry’s poor customer complaints performance and strengthen consumers’ influence over key regulatory decisions, including price setting.

Robert Light, Chair of CCW said:

Emma possesses all the qualities we were looking for with a strong track record of leadership and vast consumer and public policy experience. I’m confident she will help us to deliver our bold agenda to ensure water companies deliver outstanding services at a price consumers think is fair.

Emma said:

It’s a huge privilege to be able to lead CCW through what promises to be a challenging but exciting period for the water industry as it looks to build more resilient services that current and future generations can depend on. CCW has established itself as a powerful and respected advocate for water customers and I want to build on those strong foundations and get consumers more actively engaged with a utility that we can sometimes take for granted.

Emma’s interest in consumer affairs can be traced right back to her early employment with Which? That led her to pursue other consumer-focused roles including serving two terms as a non-executive director of TrustMark – the Government-endorsed quality scheme for tradespeople.

Prior to her role at BMI she was CEO of Certsure LLP – the leading regulatory body in the electrical contracting and energy sector which is focused on raising standards. Emma’s leadership and innovative thinking was credited with modernising the not-for-profit joint venture – moving it up more than 20 places in The Times Top 100 Companies to work for in 2018.

Emma is currently Chair of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee (BRAC) and has served the committee for over nine years. She is heading up a number of committees providing expert advice to Government, helping to develop the future regulatory framework for buildings addressing sustainability and safety issues.
