Building site of houses

Balancing the needs of a growing population and the pressure on future water supplies will be the focus of a consumer group’s meeting in Peterborough on Tuesday (3 March).

CCW – the voice for water consumers – will be joined by local water companies, including Anglian Water, Severn Trent and South Staffs Water, along with local authorities and housing developers to explore how they can work together to create new housing alongside sustainable water and sewerage services.

Professor Bernard Crump, Chair of CCW’s Central and Eastern Region, said: “Our growing population is fueling the need for new housing and that will inevitably put more strain on our water and sewerage services.”

“Water companies need to work closely with developers and partner organisations to find more innovative solutions that can overcome the pressures posed by population growth and a more volatile climate. It’s a great opportunity for local residents and businesses to hear how these challenges are being confronted.”

The meeting will also explore the issue of transparency in the water industry and the efforts being made by companies to be more open about their finances with the customers they serve.

There will be a chance for consumers to put questions to their water company or CCW during the meeting which starts at 11am in Weston Homes Stadium, Peterborough.
