Customers can discover how water companies plan to improve services while also cutting bills over the next five years, when the Consumer Council for Water (CCW) meets in Sheffield on Monday (27 January).

Representatives from Northumbrian Water, United Utilities, Yorkshire Water and Hartlepool Water will set out how they intend to deliver improvements in a number of key areas, including reducing leakage and supporting more customers in vulnerable circumstances.

It is a golden opportunity for customers to hear first-hand how their water company plans to spend their cash. There will also be a chance for people to put any questions to CCW’s Northern team or their supplier.

Robert Light, Chair of CCW, said:

This is a great opportunity for customers to come and hear about how their money is being invested and what they can expect in return. Companies have just committed to a huge package of improvements while cutting bills over the next five years and it’s a chance for people to hear what that means for their household.

Last month, regulator Ofwat announced a final package of measures which will see the average water and sewerage bill in England and Wales fall by about £50 before inflation over the next five years. Water companies will be expected to pump around £51 billion into maintaining and improving services for customers and the environment during that period.

The meeting will also address the issue of social value and the ways in which water companies can work more collaboratively for the benefit of all customers and the wider community.

The meeting starts at 12.30pm at the Crowne Plaza, Royal Victoria Hotel, Sheffield. If you would like to attend, please email [email protected]
