Piggy bank sinking, savings loss concept

With news that more than a million pensioners in the UK are missing pension credit payments they are entitled to, CCWater is urging people to use its free online tools to check whether they could be missing out on a potential income boost.

Pensioners are not the only demographic missing benefit entitlements, with as much as £10 billion going left unclaimed every year. Do you think you could be entitled to additional payments? Not sure? There’s a quick and easy way to find out:

Let our calculator do the sums

One of the simplest ways to find out if you could qualify for additional support is by using the free benefits calculator and grants search tool provided to us by debt relief charity Turn2us opens in new window.

The calculator lets you quickly identify whether you are entitled to a wide range of means-tested benefits, including Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support and Working Tax Credit. Over the last year, more than 3000 people have used it to identify potential welfare entitlements totalling more than £10 million. You can also use the grants search tool to see whether you might qualify for assistance from over 3,000 charitable funds.

Help with your water bill

Customers feeling the pinch should also remember not to neglect ways to save money on their water bill. For some people, having a water meter installed can deliver bill reductions – it won’t work for everyone, however if you have more bedrooms in your property than occupants, there’s a good chance you could be making a saving. Our water meter calculator can give you a good indication if you would be better off switching. Even better news, most companies give you two years to trial one and in most cases you’ll be able to switch back if you decide it’s not the right option for you.

If you think you may need additional help, speak to your water company about the extra support it can offer, including a reduced social tariff for eligible low-income customers. These tariffs can help some customers cut their bill by as much as 90 per cent, so it is certainly worth finding out if you might qualify for help. You can find our full range of money saving tools as well as information about social tariffs and other forms of support here.
