Water companies will be challenged over the cost of their services and efforts to keep taps running across the region, when they’re quizzed by consumers in Coventry.

The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) is letting consumers set the agenda at its public Board meeting on Tuesday (5th March), when people can put their questions to the region’s water companies.

The Water Watchdog hit the streets earlier this month to film questions from local people that suppliers, Severn Trent Water opens in new window, South Staffordshire Water opens in new window, Anglian Water opens in new window, Cambridge Water opens in new window and Essex & Suffolk Water opens in new window, will attempt to answer during the meeting.

Keeping bills affordable and protecting water resources for future generations were just a few of the pressing issues raised by consumers, who can also table questions on the day.

Professor Bernard Crump, Central and Eastern Chair for CCWater, said:

The future of the industry depends on water companies tackling the issues that matter most to their customers. We’re looking forward to seeing how companies respond to some of the challenging questions people have already shared with us.

Companies will also have time to respond to the regulator Ofwat’s initial assessment of their business plans for 2020-25, which was announced last month. These plans set out companies’ commitments on bills, services and investment up to 2025.

The meeting will begin at 11am at St Mary’s Guildhall, Bayley Lane, Coventry. If you would like to attend or have any questions, please email Alison Townsend at [email protected]
