The Consumer Council for Water has welcomed ambitious plans by Yorkshire Water to significantly improve its performance on a number key services for customers over the next two years.

The company has today (Wednesday) announced a package of measures which aim to substantially reduce leakage, sewer flooding and pollution incidents, as well as reducing the amount of time customers experience interruptions to their water supply.

CCWater said the commitments – which go beyond those made by Yorkshire Water at the last Price Review in 2014 – should encourage other water companies to reflect on whether they are showing enough ambition in improving services for their customers.

Robert Light, Northern Chair of the Consumer Council for Water, said: “These are ambitious commitments from Yorkshire Water which we’ve been assured by the company will improve services without putting extra pressure on customers’ bills. We hope other water companies will reflect on this and show the same intent and ambition to share the benefits of any efficiency or financial success with customers.”
