Campaigners at Southern Water and the Consumer Council for Water were left feeling flushed with success after scooping a top award for their animated efforts to protect customers from sewer flooding.

‘The Unflushables’ landed the Gold Award for Corporate and Business Communications Campaign at the CIPR Pride Awards for the South of England and Channel Islands on Friday night.

The campaign – which was launched in February 2017 – centred on an animated film, produced by the Brighton-based Progress Film Company, which used compelling real-life stories to help customers understand the devastating impact sewer flooding can have on people’s homes and possessions.

Consumers were armed with top tips and advice to help them fight back against The Unflushables – including wet wipes, nappies, and greasy leftovers from cooking – which are responsible for thousands of sewer blockages every year.

The Unflushables cast – including Tim the Toilet, Josie the Armchair,  Steve the Pink Teddy and Sharon Washomatic – were voiced by frontline Southern Water staff who have supported sewer flooding victims.
