The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) has welcomed the swift offer of a goodwill payment to 3,600 properties in the Yorkshire villages of Thorne and Moorends, which continue to be affected by a boil water notice.

CCWater – which represents the interests of water consumers – has been liaising closely with Yorkshire Water to help ensure customers are kept properly informed throughout the incident.

Many villagers have suffered considerable disruption since Friday afternoon (July 29), but CCWater supports the decision to continue with the boil water notice until the safety and quality of drinking water supplies can be guaranteed.

The consumer body is pleased, however, Yorkshire Water has made a swift decision to offer a £30 gesture of goodwill to all affected households. CCWater also expects the company to liaise with affected businesses and ensure they are not left out of pocket by the disruption.

Robert Light, Northern Chair for the Consumer Council for Water, said:

Customers have suffered a lot disruption so we are pleased Yorkshire Water has acted swiftly in offering this automatic payment. We believe the gesture should ensure no household is left out of pocket.

CCWater is urging all affected customers to continue to keep a close eye on Yorkshire Water’s updates on the incident on the company’s website at www.yorkshirewater.com/thorne opens in new window
