PEOPLE struggling to pay their water bill can discover more about the support available to them during the Consumer Council for Water’s (CCWater) Western Committee meeting next month.

CCWater and water companies from the region will be among those represented at the public meeting on Thursday, October 9 in Taunton.

Recent research by CCWater has revealed a growing number of households say their water bill is not affordable but awareness of the support schemes available to them remains low.

The meeting will include a presentation on customer-funded social tariffs, which can lower the bills of struggling customers, and are offered to those eligible by three water companies in the Western region.

Charles Howeson, Western chair for CCWater said: “One in five water customers tell us they cannot afford their bill but increasingly water companies are able to offer support.

“We’ll be discussing what assistance is available and how the water industry can raise awareness of these schemes so struggling households get the help they need.”

The meeting will take place in the Castle Hotel, Castle Green, Taunton at 1pm and anyone planning to attend is asked to confirm in advance by emailing [email protected]
