    Water and sewerage price limits are set every five years by Ofwat, the financial regulator. On 26 November 2009, Ofwat announced its final decision on price limits for 2010-15.  The links below cover the process upto Ofwat’s final decision.

    Companies had until 26 January 2010 to either accept Ofwat's decision or to appeal to the Competition Commission (CC). Only Bristol Water asked the CC to re-determine its price limits. The CC have six months in which to do so.

    The key dates and activities are:

    26 November 2009 - Ofwat published its Final Determinations of price limits.

    October 2009  - CCWater published the results of research into customers' views on Ofwat's 2009 Draft Determinations

    September 2009 - CCWater published its formal response to Ofwat's Draft Determinations of price limits.

    23 July 2009 - Ofwat published its Draft Determinations of price limits

    June 2009 -  CCWater published its formal response to companies’ final business plans

    April 2009 - Water companies submitted their final business plans to Ofwat.  These called for an average £28 above inflation increase in water and sewerage bills for the 2010-15 period.

    February 2009 – The joint national stakeholder group published the results of its quantitative research into consumers’ views about the investment and price proposals contained in companies’ draft business plans

    October 2008 – CCWater published its formal response to companies’ draft business plans

    August 2008 – Water companies submitted their draft business plans to Ofwat.  These called for an average £29 above inflation increase in water and sewerage bills for the 2010-15 period. 

    June 2008 – The joint national stakeholder group, which includes CCWater, published the results of deliberative research into consumers’ views and expectations on what they would like to see in water companies’ business plans for the next five years

    March 2008 – Ofwat published its final ‘Framework and Approach’ methodology paper

    October 2007 – Ofwat published its draft ‘Framework and Approach’ methodology paper to which CCWater responded in early February 2008

    November 2006 – CCWater published its expectations for the 2009 price review
