Supply interruptions

Your water company should give you at least 48 hours written notice if they are going to turn off your supply to carry out planned engineering work which will last more than 4 hours. They should also tell you when your supply will be restored.

Where there is a burst local water main, the company should be able to restore your supply within 12 hours. If a large water main bursts, the company should be able to restore the supply within 48 hours.

If the interruption lasts more than 12 hours, then the company should provide you with an alternative supply, eg. bottled water.
