Welsh sandcastle on Wales beach

We are delighted to announce the publication of our Wales Committee Annual Review for 2014/15 (pdf)

The review sets out what we have achieved for customers during a challenging 12 months, dominated by the conclusion of the 2014 Price Review which set prices and investment for the next five years.

Our achievements included:

  • Working with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water and Dee Valley Water to deliver lower bills over the next five years and more investment in the things that matter most to customers.
  • Helping customers in Wales with over 600 complaints and enquiries and returning over £27,000 in compensation and rebates.
  • Ensuring customers struggling to pay their water bill got more help from their water company, including supporting the launch of Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s ‘HelpU’ tariff for low-income households.

Many of our achievements would not have been possible without the willingness of water companies in Wales to listen to and act on customers’ views. Indeed this approach resulted in the most customer-driven price-setting process since privatisation over 25 years ago.  Customers’ views have begun to shape price, priorities and service. Our job will be to make sure that companies deliver on those promises.  This will be one of the immediate challenges facing my successor when my ten-year term of office as Chair of the Wales Committee draws to a close in October.

My sincere thanks to everyone in the water sector and industry who has helped us to achieve so much for customers. We have a lot to be proud of – but there is still much more to be done to ensure customers remain where they should always be, at the heart of the water industry.
